We can pick out a bet for many reasons, but we usually start on the depth, or competitiveness, of a race. For any bet, there needs to be an edge. With years of experience in racing, we’ve found picking your fights is the key. Our daily posts break down every angle of every bet, so you’ll always known what angle has been taken in finding a bet, and many readers take them forward in finding their own bets.

I try to make our daily posts the perfect way to dip your toes into horse racing. I have always said that there is no sport like horse racing, where so many different variables can be used, scrutinised and exploited in order to make and land a bet. When your coming into it fresh, without years of biased opinion, looking at various angles is a lot easier. We also try and break down everything as clearly as possibly, without the usual tipster speak, where too many fancy words can explain very little of anything remotely useful.

Race form might look like hieroglyphics at first, but they’re super helpful and not that difficult. It just takes a bit of looking and a bit of patience. We break down form regularly in the Daily Dial posts, where we explain what form is relevent. Often punters look at the string of numbers next to horses name on a racecard and write them off. We had one recent who last six read 130607 (0’s being 10th or worse), but his C&D form at the grade read 171521 – He looked out of form on his most recent runs, but scooted in at 9/1!

Finding a betting angle is what gives you your edge in a bet, and hopefully seperates you from the market and finds you value. If you bet the same as everyone else, you will bet the favourite in every race and over time, lose. Find yourself an edge in a market and horse racing can produce extraordinary value. We are always looking for an edge, in every race we study, and every post will detail that edge on every bet chanced. Some we use once, others we use and look for regularly.

We work on a points system (pts), with a 100pt bank – I recommend this to every bettor. What you stake per point is up to you. We started off in 2013 using £1 per point with a £100 bank, and we’ve increased it sensibly as our bankroll built up. Some readers use heavier stakes, but bet what you can afford. A sensible start with a betting bank of 100pts ensures you can’t get too carried away, but it does require patience. It’s no good betting one horse at 2/1 for £50 and then one at 20/1 for £5, because your 20/1 winner isn’t relevent to your 2/1 winner. Bet everything across the board to relevent stakes. We use 1pt Minimum Bets, 2pt Bets and 5pt Max Bets.
