Calculate returns on 4 bets from three selections
A Trixie is the simplest full cover bet: 3 doubles and 1 treble from three selections. Four bets total. You need at least two winners to collect, but when all three come in the treble delivers a serious return on a modest outlay.
The structure suits punters who have three strong fancies and want more protection than a straight treble. A treble alone is one bet — if one selection loses, you get nothing. A Trixie gives you three doubles as backup. If two of your three selections win at 3/1 and 4/1, a £5 Trixie returns £100 from the winning double. The treble loses, but you’ve still collected five times your total stake.
At £1 unit stake, a Trixie costs £4 versus £3 for a straight treble. That extra pound buys you three separate chances to profit from any two winners. Whether that’s worth it depends entirely on the odds. At short prices, the doubles don’t return enough to justify the extra bet. At 2/1 and above across all three selections, the Trixie starts making serious sense.
