Website problems – Apologies. The problem with #FreeTips! Having issues with the server, which for now I can’t do much about. With the antics of trying to save the website last night, I was mighty late to the party in getting the head into a bumper day of it, and typically the two I fancied more were earlier in the day. Saxon Grace (7/2, Redcar 14:37) was one I offered up in March, have watched since and she probably should’ve won LTO, but for being asked to challenge very late. She was stepped up in trip by three furlongs that day, so understandable they delivered her late, but blimey. Back down to a mile today, and they now know she stays? She should win and I’d have put her as a selection if I wasn’t getting this out a little over an hour before the off.
The other I like who I just about haven’t offered up is Owen Burrows’ Calendar Girl (8/1, Haydock 15:00), who goes in the Fillies’ & Mares’ Listed race. She takes on the very useful Fallen Angel of Karl Burke’s, but she is 0/6 when returning from a break, and hasn’t been seen on the track for 86 days. That’s a big enough question mark to justify taking her on IMHO. The Burrows filly looked classy as a 2-year-old, all whilst looking like wanting further and he is a master at readying one on return from a break. It’s a decent race this mind.
Today’s Stat Attack board is up, also – it is only for pointing purposes, but it has been in rattling form of late, notching 13 winners from the last 42 qualifiers. It’s well worth a look for some decent trends with where certain trainers target their runners.
Reared and bumped rival start, never better than midfield
The only bet is in the worst grade of the day, but a bet is a bet. I used to turn my nose up at Classified Stakes, but they are certainly growing legs again. There’s one in here who I think is well ahead of these, and from stall 2 should be able to ping the gates and dominate. ROMAN SPRING is a Caravaggio gelding who ran regularly for three years without winning a race, before getting off the mark at the 29th time of asking last year, and went on to win twice further in 2025, including a Handicap here at Lingfield over 5f last November.
Falling now for the first time into a Classified Stakes, where he meets rivals rated far beneath his best and from level weights, he should be able to really turn the screw on these. Joe Leavy rides, who has been excellent here this year, riding 7/24 for a 29% strike, and is very apt at judging the kick off the turn for home here.

Whatever you can genuinely afford to lose, full stop. Don't play with rent money. Don't chase last week.
For new starters, a sensible starting point is a £100 bank at £1 per point. From there, scale the unit up by 0.5pt for every 50% the bankroll grows — £150 bank → £1.50/pt, £200 → £2/pt, £250 → £2.50/pt, and so on. The inverse — cutting the unit when the bank drops — is good practice but personal preference; I don't do it myself but it's sound advice for most.
What does "each-way" mean?
An each-way bet is two bets in one — a Win bet and a Place bet, each for the same stake. So 1pt each-way means 1pt to win plus 1pt to place: 2pt total out of the bank.
The Place part pays out at a fraction of the win odds (usually 1/4 or 1/5) if the horse finishes in the places — typically the first 3 or 4 depending on the race. Each-way is the right call when the price is generous enough that the place return alone covers the stake. Full guide here.
How do I follow this bet?
Best route is Oddschecker. It pulls every UK bookmaker's price into one screen so you can grab the top of the market — and crucially it shows the place terms, which vary by firm. One bookmaker might offer 11/1 paying 3 places at 1/4 odds; another might offer the same 11/1 paying 4 places at 1/5. Maximum win return vs hedged each-way return — your call which serves the bet better.
If the price has shortened since I advised it, judge it on the case in the prose. Rule of thumb: I'm generally happy down to about two-thirds of the advised price — 14/1 down to 10/1, 8/1 down to 5/1. Below that it's marginal and probably worth passing. Keep an eye on the price in the last 20 minutes too — short prices often drift back out as the off approaches, especially on outsiders. Bet with bookmakers offering Best Odds Guaranteed and you're covered either way.
What if the price has shortened by the time I get to it?
Judge it bet by bet. The cleaner the case in the prose, the more decay I'll tolerate. Rule of thumb is about two-thirds of the advised price — 14/1 down to 10/1 is still in, 9/1 down to 6/1 still fine, anything below that is marginal.
