Two bets on the evening cards, at Windsor and Lingfield — including one I couldn’t leave alone after we were unfortunate to have a blown start on Saturday, turned back out in exactly the same sphere.
One bet tonight at Kempton, and it’s a 100/1 shot with All-Weather form and a pedigree that wants this trip. There’s method in the madness.
Three today – Carmel Valley at Ayr, Ballybunion at Kempton and Just An Hour at Windsor. Plus a word on two baffling runs in Ireland yesterday, and the email list being canned.
The Curragh is by far where the best of the action is today, and it’s my watch for the afternoon. Two bets there, both with Billy Lee up – Lohoobb for Michael Grassick and Ken Condon’s Marmeladova.
The only bet is in the worst grade of the day, but a bet is a bet. Roman Spring drops into a Classified Stakes for the first time and from stall 2 should be able to ping the gates and dominate at Lingfield.
Three fancies today across Pontefract and Kempton, and the first of them is a mare who does the one thing Pontefract’s course specialists rarely manage – win from the back of the field. A heavily undulating track with a long uphill finish that finds plenty out, and with a few confirmed front-runners in today, she should get a lovely pace to aim at.
Today is a mixed bag, and three very different types taken for a bet each at Catterick, Ffos Las and Roscommon – including a Sir Mark Prescott debutant, a rare thing for me to bet.
A quiet Monday’s cards, but I fancy one lurking this evening to make a big fist of it from a falling mark at a decent each-way price. A seven-year-old gelding with a history of popping up when his mark has sufficiently fallen, and he makes a rarer trip to Windsor for a particularly weak 0-65 Class 6 Handicap.
I expected today’s cards to pass me by without an interest, but there was one leaping off the page at me, so I’ve had to dip my toe in with the one bet. A very weak race, with the two principals in the betting begging to be taken on.
Today’s best bet is keeping the faith in another previous selection, one who ran a big race for us earlier this month at 40/1. This time it’s a significantly easier race, and the handicapper has again been generous with the weights.
