Day one of Chester’s Boodles May Festival, with three plays in one race plus the customary Kempton bet. Huscal and Midnight Strike both each-way at Chester — the latter a 125/1 Irish import worth a minimum stake. Bennyworth runs at Kempton off bottom weight. O’Brien angle on Amelia Earhart discussed.
A weekend on the sidelines for the Guineas, back in the betting today with four plays. Two of Jack Channon’s in-form maidens at Windsor and Kempton — Decade Of Time and Sargent Dennis — plus Daniel Tudhope’s pair at Beverley in Come On Over and Gorey Gold. Henry Callan at Bath looked but left.
A few decent cards today but strewth they look some tough betting heats. Two runners from the Tracker and it is one who we chanced last time who I have just about justified the price about him to chance a bet. Being honest though, I expected a bigger price. I’ve said it again and again, these betting markets are getting tougher and tougher to crack.

Five wins for Chris Gordon, all of them here at Plumpton, and today he drops back to a 0-105 handicap chase with his stable’s best course specialist clear on the figures. One 2-point Win bet at 13/2.
Like Provision at Southwell on Wednesday, this is a pedigree play — but an easier one to argue. Provision ran a decent race at 40/1 and I’m hopeful of another solid run for our money today.
