It's a thin enough day of racing, but these are the days which can make for the most interest in the betting. I've taken three at Roscommon, Yarmouth and Kempton, and feel good about a positive spin.

Back after a lengthy break of reflection and research, with a ratings system now running in the background. A South Coast Derby to get to means a short post today, with just the selections going up.

Chancing two today, one in a Yarmouth Maiden who really impressed first time out at Kempton and one at Clonmel who has just about sneaked in at an each-way price and looks really well handicapped in a weak enough race.

Taking an easier month of it on the betting front, but one goes today who was extremely impressive when I was on course at Ascot recently. Maelstrom looks a great bet to notch another hat-trick at Doncaster.

A quiet week with something having to give, but today there's one I've had to take a chance on. Rogue Dakota is bred for this, from a yard who target these and under one of the best riders at Wolverhampton, yet she is 20/1.

We kick September off with one bet, in the lucky last at Brighton, a standard 2pt bet on one who now goes off the same mark he last won from in a poorly contested 0-75. Other than that it's a relatively naff looking day, so I'll let the rest run with just the one interest.

One each-way tickle today, with Peaceful Spirit on handicap debut for Lawrence Mullaney at Southwell. Bred to be useful on the All Weather and off a lowly mark of 62, with four places on offer.

The rain has finally come, and with it a plethora of non-runners. Proven form on deeper ground is a major positive, but I'm taking a chance on a debutant who hails from a sire with a remarkable record at producing mudloving types.

A decent set of cards to chew over, and three chanced with more expectation than hope. Two standard bets at 2pts and one minimum bet for 1pt, at Thirsk, Goodwood and Sedgefield.

The one we do go with was a handsome winner for readers back in January, when the mare won a near mirror image race over the C&D at 16/1. She goes again at double the price here, which just can't be ignored.

Three bets across the Newbury maiden card today: two Owen Burrows newcomers and a big-priced Jack Channon 2TO, leaning on the two angles that have been almost bombproof for us. For the first time in a while, I'm playing a 1pt minimum.

I'm going to chance one who we backed recently on stable debut for Luke Dace, who put a similar showing in on his first start at Kempton. Switching to Lingfield today, where he has solid course form, I've had to dip back in.

One bet on a quiet Monday - one of Musselburgh's strongest yards with their only runner of the day, 7lbs below his last winning mark. Brief thoughts on the others I looked at as well.

A week spent on the sidelines as a watching brief, and we're back with the one that went into the tracker last post. Kiss Don't Tell at the Curragh, 1pt each-way at 33/1 off what I think is a lenient opening mark, with a 5lb claimer on board.
