Daily Dial #60 – One Solid Each-Way Bet at Lingfield

Another quiet day during the lull in racing, perfectly exemplified by the fact my Tracker alerts have been silent for nearly a week now. Ordinarily it’s rare to go a day with no alerts, but this is a real quiet patch. One bet found today, and it’s one who won for us at a huge price in a race over these exact conditions back at the end of January.

The first selection since Monday, when we backed Neptune Legend at Wolverhampton in his bid to defy seven furlongs. The race didn’t really pan out for him, with the front four all being up with the pace throughout, and Neptune could only keep on from the rear for 5th, beaten 1½ lengths. It was a fair enough run and I wouldn’t be discouraged from backing him over the same trip again, albeit I do think he wants 6f.

Kaaress @ 12/1

1pt Each-Way | Lingfield 17:52

T: Michael Attwater | J: Kieron Fox

We followed Kaaress in at odds of 25/1 when she won under William Carson here earlier in the year, and she did so a shade cosily too, scoring by 1¼ lengths. That entire bet was geared around a) her being one of the historically best rated horses in the race, and b) the record of Michael Attwater and William Carson when teaming up in Classified Stakes races.

Today Kieron Fox takes the ride. He has a far less impressive record with Attwater in these, having scored on 1/22 rides in AW Classified Stakes for the yard, but with how easily Kaaress won over today’s course and distance last time, I can’t turn down an each-way price.

Although they haven’t rattled up many winners, 30% of them have still hit the frame, and this is a yard who don’t have many bullets to fire — so it’s not something I’ll write off, especially having proved her worth already.

Best of luck with your punting today,
